What's the difference between commercial and industrial electrical work?

Commercial work is shops, offices, fit-outs — single-phase or light three-phase, mostly power and lighting. Industrial work involves machines: VSDs, motor circuits, PLC controls, machine guarding, safety circuits, larger three-phase loads, often 415V direct-online or soft-started motors above 7.5kW. The certifications and the failure modes are different, and most residential or commercial sparkies don't carry the gear to do it safely.

Can you upgrade an old industrial switchboard without shutting the site down?

Usually yes, but it depends on the board and the supply arrangement. The cleanest path is a temporary supply or a parallel new board with a phased changeover overnight. We've done major boards over a single 6-hour overnight outage by pre-building the new board off-site. For some configurations a planned weekend outage is the only option — we'll tell you up front which applies.

Do you handle Energex applications for industrial sites?

Yes. Any change to supply capacity, three-phase upgrades above the existing allocation, EV charger installations above 32A per phase, or solar connections need Energex involvement. We lodge the application, manage the to-and-fro, and schedule the connection. Allow 3–8 weeks from submission to connection depending on what's required.

What PLC brands do you work with?

Allen-Bradley (CompactLogix, MicroLogix, ControlLogix), Siemens (S7-1200, S7-1500), Schneider Modicon (M221, M241, M340), Omron CP1L, and Mitsubishi FX. For HMI we work with FactoryTalk, TIA Portal, EcoStruxure Machine Expert, and CX-Designer. If you've got a legacy controller we don't normally touch, we'll either pick it up or quote a retrofit to a platform we run actively — almost always cheaper long-term than chasing parts for an obsolete CPU.
